Work Exchange
Are you looking to experience off-grid living and possibly taking a stab at being an entrepreneur? Or perhaps you want to simply help us out as needed on this tranquil permaculture farm that is exploding with learning opportunities? Are you searching for a space that sparks inspiration? A place where you can dream, create, and imagine what’s next for you? If you feel your heart opening from reading any of these ideas, this is the right place for you.

We are looking for someone who can help with our permaculture orchard and plant nursery for 10 hrs per week. (Five of these hours must take place between Monday and Thursday before 5 p.m.) This allows enough time for you to have a part time job elsewhere if it interests you. Or if you want to use our land to make an income, we are open to hearing your thoughts and dreams, and would be happy for you to use the space here to make your dream happen if it aligns with our values. We are flexible and open-minded and excited to collaborate with a passionate individual who can bring new insight and skills.
We live just a kilometer or so from the famous Bruce Trail, with amazing vistas along the escarpment edge. We are 12 min from Wiarton, the closest town with restaurants, great galleries, coffee shops, karaoke, laundry, yoga and more. We are 5 min from Georgian Bay swimming, and a walk to Lake Charles for fishing, wildlife viewing, and canoeing.
The bunkie is located on the edge of a forest with window views into the forest with exposed escarpment rock ridges, and the orchard to the south. It has been finished with well thought-out practical storage spaces. It incorporates a small indoor counter top/kitchen space with cabinets containing everything you need, a wood stove, a living space, and a 10’ x 8’ loft for sleeping. A propane burner and grill can be used for cooking outdoors. A compostable outhouse is near-by, and laundry can be completed in Wiarton. An outdoor shower will be constructed during the spring, for use during the warm months of May to October, and you are welcome to use our second shower in the house in the cooler months. There is even space near the bunkie for you to grow a garden.
Building community here is important to us. Our vision is to strengthen community and ecosystem health and resilience through growing and educating people about nutrient dense, organic food ecosystems in hopes to reconnect people with nature and each other.
If this interests you, please reach out for more information through email rootedbythebluffs@gmail.com with the subject line BUNKIE 2026. We would be happy to meet you and discuss any questions you have. If it is the right fit for you, we will come to an agreement on the details through discussion. To apply to stay here, we will be asking for three references. We will both sign a contract and discuss and agree to an exit strategy if either of us feels things are not working out. We operate using open and honest communication so that everyone’s needs are met, and we can all thrive in this beautiful space.
