  • Varieties:  
    • American Elderberry - Sambucus canadensis - a native species to Grey and Bruce Counties. Ripens about late July to late August. Grows up to approximately 10 feet tall and wide.
    • Bob Gordon cultivar - Sambucus canadensis The berry clusters hang decumbently which may discourage some species of birds. Harvest green berries for capers, or harvest the flowers for tea. Ripens about late July to late August. Grows up to approximately 10 feet tall and wide.
  • Elderberry is known as a food-medicine specifically for its immune building properties. They must be cooked prior to consumption.
  • Easy propagation via course sand or well-draining soil. Often you will get berries within one year of planting from cuttings. Growing tips can be found here.
  • Cuttings available from mid-February to mid-April.
  • Elderberry plants are also available here.
  • Pick-up at the Nursery or at a local spring event such as Owen Sound Seedy Saturday, or Wiarton Seedy Saturday. Please indicate which of these three locations you will pick-up your cuttings within the 'Special note' box during check-out.
