- Scientific name - Ilex verticillata
- Plant Description - Spring flowers that grow in moist to wet soil, and full to part sun. Grows up to 12' tall. An important food source for birds, mammals through winter. Dioecious meaning that each plant is either male or female. So only the female produces berries, and this requires pollen from a male plant. Plants are not sexed. Berries are not-edible to humans but hold onto the bushes throughout winter adding beautiful colour to your gardens.
- Native to the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula, as well as other regions in Ontario.
